Tips to Help Your Children:

Preschool    Elementary    Middle/Junior    High School    Adult



Birth to Preschool

  •  
  • Read to your children and talk about the story.

  •  
  • Talk to your children about what you do at work.
  •  
  • Explain the work they see others doing.
  •  
  • Encourage your children to imagine what a job would be like by role-playing.
     Preschool



    Elementary School

  •  
  • Take an active role in your children’s education by attending conferences and school activities. Remember to ask about their homework.

  •  
  • Continue to read together. Listen, and answer your child’s questions.
  •  
  • Help your children discover their natural abilities and interests.
     Elementary School



    Middle/Junior High School

  •  
  • Continue to take an active role in your children’s education by attending conferences and school activities. Remember to ask about their homework.

  • Help your children feel good about who they are by praising their good deeds. Encourage them to help out at home and in the community.
  •  
  • Stay involved in their lives by asking: who, what, where, when and why.
  •  
  • Encourage your children to learn the life skills they need to find and keep a job.
     Middle/Junior High School



    High School

  •  
  • Continue to take an active role in your children’s education by attending conferences and school activities. Meet with their Guidance Counselor to discuss class choices. Talk often to your children about their classes, teachers, grades and homework.

  • Remember, your children need your encouragement to feel good about who they are and the choices they make in life. This can be accomplished by working together to set goals and limits as well as supporting their involvement in community activities.
  •  
  • Continue to stay involved in their lives by asking: who, what, where, when and why.
  •  
  • Encourage your children to explore different careers by job shadowing, attending career fairs and participating in an internship program.
     High School



    Post High School

  • Encourage your children to be life-long learners.
