Shaping Today's Students
for Tomorrow's World!

Why Education-to-Careers?

Every student who enters kindergarten will eventually join the
workforce. Global competition and new technologies are rapidly
changing our world. 65 percent of tomorrow's jobs will require more
than a high school education but less than a four-year degree.
Without an integrated education system that prepares our students
for tomorrow's world, they will not find the future they deserve.

What Is Education-to-Careers?

The Education-to-Careers system links the "Learning Communities" resources with all educational initiatives.
Schools are key partners in the "Learning Community," working together with businesses, parents and
    community agencies.

    Job Skill Level Changes

    Linking, learning and earning,
    Education-to-Careers seeks to
    maximize the talents of all
    students and provide them with
the knowledge and skills to find
and perform the jobs of the future.

The Education-to-Careers system is intended for all students, not just those who plan to enter the workforce
upon leaving high school. While Education-to-Careers activities may be different at the elementary, middle
school, secondary and post-secondary levels, together they represent a smooth and progressive system that
prepares all students for successful employment, citizenry and lifelong learning.

What Are the Components of Education-to-Careers?

    School-Based Learning

Enhances learner's knowledge of traditional subjects by integrating career related activities into the
daily curriculum. Provides students the opportunity to apply what they learn across disciplines.

    Work-Based Learning

Transfers academic skills into the workplace by exploring careers, job shadowing, mentoring and
other community experiences. Links the learning community to education by integrating workplace
skills and competencies into the curriculum.

    Connecting Activities

Combines the learning community in the development and delivery of approaches and programs
that respond to the specific needs of your community.
